Xeno-Africa by DireImpulse Xeno-Africa by DireImpulse
I have always been fascinated by the traditional art and culture of the African continent and in this image I have attempted to carry this through into an advanced civilization on a far-away world.
This is also one of the first paintings I have had a go at animating in After Effects. See video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=amhJ8b…

See my gallery for other pieces in this collection.

EDIT:
Thank you all so much for your kind comments, I am so thrilled to receive a DD, it is a huge motivational boost!

Gosh! I don't think I've seen such a successful mixture of African culture/terrain and Sci-Fi. This is stunning!
How can I get a canvas print of this?

I love the animation would say it was almost an animatic but so much more and shows great potential i could easily see a scifi short film from this.

Amazing, but the only thing that looks anything spesifically like Africa to me is that statue (even then not much). It reminds me more of some insectoid anthill-based civilization. I love the painted textures of the structures and their design.Heart

It's neat how you took a culture not many are familiar with, and expanded on the 'alien' concept, but keeping some traditional customs, like water-fetching, and the great landscapes

love the view of the landscape and the orange sky. I've watched the video and enjoyed it, have always been interested in seeing future human cultures like this.

This has an amazing warmth to it, I like seeing Sub-Saharan African design elements used in new contexts as they aren't always the go-to choice for scifi/fantasy works, reminds me to look again at an African themed RPG I saw recently that had a great art style.

Spears of the Dawn by Kevin Crawford/Sine Nomine Publishing. He also does a lot of other cool RPGs across all genres, his Red Tide game is kind of like an Asian setting where migrants from all over the world have settled as refugees creating a real cultural mash-up. His sci-fi settings Stars Without Number and Other Dust are all worth a look too. All work off of old school/retroclone rules.
