The Umbar Market, Harad by DireImpulse The Umbar Market, Harad by DireImpulse

When looking upon a fallen Haradrim foe, Faramir* mused:

"I deem. I wonder what his name is... where he came from. And if he was really evil at heart. What lies or threats led him on this long march from home? If he would not rather have stayed there... in peace. "

I used a lot more photo textures than I usually do, but please be aware that every single building is a unique blend of textures and shapes. The street was originally modeled in maya ( fav.me/d7k3koj ) and then painted over and textured in Photoshop CC.

Thank-you: senshistock.deviantart.com/art… for the base/reference for my Haradrim lady.

Check out my other pieces in this series of Harad concepts! direimpulse.deviantart.com/gal…

Wow. I love the details and colors. I've always wondered about the Southern and Eastern cultures of Middle-earth... :)

I admired the Haradrim and Easterlings, for they were men proud and tall. They gave no quarter nor did they ak for any in return.

I also love "The Umbar Market, Harad." I would love for you to consider putting the two blue wizards, Alatar and Pallando into eastern Middle-earth. "Their task was to circumvent Sauron: to bring help to the few tribes of Men that had rebelled from Melkor-worship, to stir up rebellion..." from The History of Middle-earth Vol. 12. It also refers to them as Morinehtar and Romestamo --- Darkness-slayer and East-helper. I would guess they had several names as Gandalf did.
I really like your focus on the East. LotR was all on the West. Your art seems to fit perfectly. Please consider as it would be great to expand our focus on Middle-earth. Cheers!

They wizard on the left in 'white' is a blue wizard, it was supposed to be an easter egg, only making the blue vibrant didn't work particularly well, so just think it's faded in all that sunlight :P And thanks, maybe I'll consider doing a character/s piece next ;)

Saw this first on the Facebook page of the Tolkien Society then lo and behold on my way to a meeting I saw it on the wall of the Henrion Building! Glad to see i'm not the only Tolkien fanatic here. Was very surprised but very impressed, everyone ignores the Easterlings even Tolkien himself, wish more of their culture had been explored in the books.
Not least to find out what happened to the Blue Istari.

Wow! It's so awesome you noticed it :) Yes, it would have been amazing if Tolkien had written more literature on them,  but when a world is so vast and magical, that even the side characters could have equally as astonishing stories as the main arch he chose to follow, it's no wonder that he couldn't flesh out all of it! I guess we just have to be grateful for what he did give us :/, but that doesn't stop the fans from taking matters into their own hands hehehe :D

Very very true, it would be good if there was an active fanfiction network but I feel like as a Lord of The Rings purist I wouldn't have been able to handle!
It was a fantastic piece and I look forward to all the Lord of The Rings work you do from now on! The cultures of Harad and Umbar are explored really sparingly in the fiction so it was great having an image to put to my imaginings.
I'd love to see a drawing of a Harad warchieftan! Apparently they were granted sorcerous gifts by Sauron making them as big and strong as trolls. At least according to David Day who's illustrated bestiary I quite enjoyed.

What I like most with this is the excerpt you chose and the way you let your imagination run with it. This what I love about Tolkien, just a simple phrase here or suggestive sentence there and you can go off in so many directions, so vast and rich is middle-earth. And what a truly beautiful piece which does justice to it! This is fantastic! :+fav:

An amazing piece of work. I can't get over the amount of detail and texturing. Great color choice too because I can "feel" the heat.

This has a nice middle-eastern feeling: so lively and colorful. I really like to see how the gondorian parts are falling into decay .

Thanks, I'm so glad you noticed the Numenorean architecture, it's not as grand as Osgiliath because it was built before it, so I didn't think anyone would notice! :)
